Medieval Village
Step back in time with the Clanranald Trust and experience the hustle and bustle of life on a medieval encampment. Wander through the camp and mingle craftsman, jesters, knights and even King Robert the Bruce himself. Admission is Free!!
In this atmospheric gathering nestled in Pittencrieff Park you’ll enjoy an afternoon of spectacle, entertainment and activities that makes the Bruce Festival one of Scotland’s most popular historical celebrations.
Discover how they prepared for battle and find out whether you have what it takes to join the ranks as you get your hands on the weaponry and try on the armour of the period. Hear the eerie hiss of arrows in flight as you watch the speed and power of the formidable longbow and crossbow demonstrations.
Enjoy the spectacle of medieval Scotland with a thrilling equestrian show, story telling workshops and a food village hosted by Fife’s chef, food consultant and writer, Christopher Trotter.
Elsewhere in the camp eagles, owls and falcons will be put through their paces in a dramatic falconry display or try your hand at some long forgotten craft with demonstrations from the Strathleven artisans and the Scottish Lime Centre.
As you enjoy the unique atmosphere and entertainment of the medieval camp, listen out for the rallying cry that marshals the troops into the main arena as the Clanranald Trust recreates the no holds barred battle between the warring Bruce and Comyn factions.
The Bruce Festival welcomes Les Amis d’Onno, a spectacular equestrian display troup, to the medieval village for the first time. Their team of magnificent horses and daring riders will be performing a variety of tricks and stunts in a dramatic jousting battle. Pick your champion and cheer him to victory!
The atmosphere of Bruce’s camp was fuelled by good food and entertainment and the medieval camp will capture the spirit of the time with a food village arranged by Fife’s own chef, writer and food consultant, Christopher Trotter.
Piping and drumming sensations Soar Patrol will be bringing their unique style and sound to the festival providing an energetic musical backdrop to this memorable occasion.
The Bruce Festival truly is as close as you can get to discovering medieval Scotland.
The camp will be set up in Pittencrieff Park between noon and four on Saturday and Sunday 27th & 28th August.
Admission is free of charge.
