Date : Sunday 23rd November. 2:00pm- 6:00pm

This year's Christmas Lights switch on will take place in Dunfermline on Sunday 23rd November and will feature a host of entertainment for all the family. Kingdom FM Radio Show will be providing music at two sites, commencing at 2:00pm at the Childrens Stage opposite O’Briens Coffee Shop, and at 4:00pm at the Main Stage at Louise Carnegie Glen Gates. Overdrive Presenter Darren Stenhouse and Nightline Presenter Barry Sneddon will manage the Children’s Stage, and Ian Gilmour and Diane Lester will be in charge of the Main Stage. The DJ Box outside the City Chambers will be entertaining the crowds from 5pm.

During the afternoon Street Entertainers will be in place along the High Street from mid-day. Balloon modelling clowns will be giving balloons away to children, and also doing face painting. The Alhambra Alive team will be headlining at the main stage from 4.30pm.

Santa will be at the Glen Gates from 2pm-4pm to receive all the children’s letters, so please bring your kids along to make sure that Santa can get his elves working on those special gifts.

The events will culminate in Santa’s Parade, which will leave East Port at 5:30pm and make its way down the High Street led by Alhambra Alive. The Kingdom Motor Cycle group will be taking part in suitably festive costumes, as well as lots of other attractions. The Christmas Lights switch on ceremony will take place at 6:00pm.

Operation Christmas Child is one of the most remarkable annual charity programmes in the UK – now in its 18th year – which collects gift filled shoeboxes to distribute to needy children in Eastern Europe and Africa at Christmas.

Last year Operation Christmas Child delivered a total of nearly 1.3 million shoeboxes from Britain.

The project’s Regional Manager, Chris Thomson, comments:
“Many schools, community organisations, churches, business and individuals throughout Fife took part last year and donated a total of 2,100 shoeboxes full of presents, which meant so much to the children who received them – they were thrilled. Our aim is to keep this terrific effort going in 2008.”

Chris continues: “...All we ask is a £2.50 contribution towards promotion, transport, processing and distribution, and that the shoeboxes are ready by November 18th at the latest”.

Visit www.samaritanspurse.uk.com or telephone 0870 011 2002 for more information.

Filled shoeboxes can be taken to Dunfermline United Reformed Church, Canmore Street or Viewfield Baptist Church between 1st – 18th November.
