Mermaids making a splash at Deep Sea World

Mermaid Ellie is making a surprise return visit to Deep Sea World, Scotland’s national aquarium, due to overwhelming popular demand.

The real-life mermaid made a huge splash when she last visited the North Queensferry attraction and now she has returned for a fin-tastic flying visit. Ellie will be making special guest appearances at 11.30am and 3pm on Thursday, July 28th, Saturday, July 30th and Tuesday, August 2nd in the rockpool area.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a chat with her and find out more about the magical world of mermaids.

Deep Sea World’s Nancy Sidhu said: “The reaction we have had from visitors; particularly the younger ones when they meet Mermaid Ellie for the first time at Easter truly was magical.

“It’s not often you have the chance to chat with a real live mermaid and they loved it! The feedback we got last time was so positive that we decided to invite her back for a series of three whistle-stop visitors this summer,” she added.

At 112 metres long Deep Sea World boasts the largest underwater walkway tunnel in Europe.

Its main Underwater Safari display holds 4.5 million litres of seawater, making it the largest temperate marine exhibit in the UK, and is home to one of Europe’s largest collections of sharks and rays, as well as hundreds of other marine life including sea bass, crabs and lobsters.

Stars of the display are the giant, three-metre-long sand tiger sharks, the Critically Endangered angel sharks and the graceful eagle rays.
