The first ever Fife Flower Show has been hailed a blooming success.

Almost 150 exhibitors from across Scotland con- verged on Dobbie’s Garden World in Dunfermline, filling the greenhouse with 1000 exhibits of flowers, vegetables and floral art, plus displays by Fife Beekeepers and Fife Crafts Association.

A similar event, the Fife Garden Festival, was run by Fife Council for 10 years but was discontinued last year due to budget constraints. But a group of gardening enthusiasts took over, with help from Dobbie’s and a council grant, to ensure the popular event continued.

Chairman Alistair Barnard hoped the show would continue for many years to come, and thanked Dobbie’s manager Eric West and his staff for their assistance during the weekend, as well as the many sponsors including the Carnegie Trust which sponsored the pallet garden section, allowing schools and youth organisations to take part.

The trophy winners were:

Chrysanthemums—Robert Jackson, James Hosie, Callum Smith; dahlias—Rab Ritchie, Ross Ainslie, George Duncan; cut flowers—Terry Stott; fuchsia—Tom Dair; begonias—Alistair Gray; cacti/succulents—Alan Weepers; bonsai—A Duff; vegetables—Alistair Gray, E Low; wine—Margaret McArthur, David Shand; floral art—Linda Soutar, Gill Wardell, Isobel Cooper; children’s section—Catriona Tollick, Krista Spencer, Kelly Fairbairn; pallet gardens—Camdean Primary School, 81st Fife Sea Cub Scouts, Woodmill High School, Queen Anne High School.
