He Was A Disappointment To Me

'Bare hearted' Tam D here,

Sadly...

A decade on and my deceased mother's disapproval,

Still hangs heavy on me.

I loved her so much.

Yet some things from my foolish youth riled her deeply. And I don't think she ever really forgave me for my missteps.

All through the years...

I tried everything to please her. To make her love me again and be happy with me... just like when I was a bairn way back then.

Alas I failed.

Oft when looking out the windae her eyes seemed to say...

'He's a disappointment to me'

I'll be honest,

I've never got over it.

'Sorry Mum, I wasnae...'

Still.

One thing comforts me.

Makes me think...

'Tam, you're a diamond, even if a little rough for some.

Makes me think I'm actually worth something.

It's when,

A person like... you,

Reads these weak scribbles.

And reflects too.

That we can all do well...

If we're allowed to.
