Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries (DCL&G) – a museum, gallery spaces, cafe, shop and reading rooms all under one roof and all with FREE admission.
This spectacular award-winning building – including the EAA Building of the Year and Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland’s (RIAS) Andrew Doolan prize – opened in 2017 and was designed to link seamlessly with the Carnegie Library, the first in the world to be opened by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1883.
It is also only the attraction in Dunfermline to be awarded VisitScotland’s highest five star rating for exceptional visitor experience.
As well as the library, it is home to a fantastic museum, great exhibition galleries, superb local history Reading Room, family-friendly children’s library and a mezzanine café with stunning views over the landscaped garden to Dunfermline Abbey and the Heritage Quarter.
DCL&G is also part of a network of coworking hubs in Scotland’s public libraries, providing dedicated work space for start-ups and small businesses.
The lovely cafe is a popular favourite with regulars and visitors and is run by local company Heaven Scent – find out more at www.heavenscentcoffeeshop.co.uk
