Much Needed Initiative at DAFC

Billy here

I’d just like to use this week’s article to give a shout out to my friend Eddie Martin’s continuous efforts working as a volunteer at Dunfermline Athletic. Eddie’s area of expertise is in mental health and this is also what he does in his day job with the NHS.

The Pars Foundation is the community aspect of the club and does fantastic work in many areas, building future ties with club and community.

Eddie has been coordinating different activities with the purpose of bringing people together who may be having similar experiences in life.

However, if you just fancy a blether and some company you would be made very welcome on one of their frequent walks around West Fife.

The latest initiative from Eddie and his team is called ‘Keep kicking on’ and is aimed specifically at young males aged 16-25 years old.

This initiative invites young males to play football in a relaxed environment and tackle any stigmas that might be associated with mental health. There will also be an element of suicide prevention integrated into this too.

This was brought into being after conversation with some of the young lads who frequent the North West Stand.

Starting on Monday 31st January from 6-7pm at Queen Anne High School. Former Pars stalwart Scott Thomson will also be there to support and offer coaching tips.

I wish Eddie and all involved all the very best for the future.
